Professor Einoder, who is still a surgeon at the LGH, was awarded the LO Betts medal by the Australian Orthopaedic Association at an event in Melbourne last week.
The medal, given in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the science and practice of orthopaedics or to the AOA, is only offered occasionally.
Professor Einoder said he was surprised, humbled, proud and absolutely rapt.
‘‘I had trouble giving a speech because I was all choked up,’’ Professor Einoder said.
‘‘I think the reason I’m so happy and so proud of this is because it does go to show you can be the best surgeon and work in a country town like Launceston.
‘‘So I think it’s a feather in the cap of the Launceston General Hospital, and the surgeons I work with, because we’re a team.’’
THE AOA said Professor Einoder was instrumental in the growth of orthopaedics in Tasmania, through his mentorship of surgeons and leaders.
‘‘It was his devotion to his profession and commitment to the welfare and education of his trainees and colleagues that has grown the status of orthopaedics in this part of Australia to its current heights,’’ the AOA said.
‘‘It is through his influence that many of his registrars decided to locate to Tasmania and commit their careers in the regions.’’
