THE North East Rivers Festival Pioneer fishing comp was held on Saturday and attracted 150 registered anglers and about 30 onlookers.

Festival director Lynden Russell said that about 85 anglers had registered by 9.30am.
``A total of 36 fish were weighed in and 12 of these were caught off the bank,'' he said. ``Most were trout but some were good-sized Atlantic salmon.''
There was a tie between Leigh Jones, of Scottsdale, and Aaron McGuire, of Ringarooma, for the heaviest fish caught by an adult male.
Mr Jones landed a 5.5lb Atlantic salmon and Mr McGuire a similar-sized trout.
Heaviest fish caught by an adult female – the 3.5lb trout caught by Annette Hanks of Pioneer.
The heaviest fish caught by a 15-17 year old male –was the 5.2lb Atlantic salmon caught by Grayson Lester of Herrick.
No 15-17 year old girls registered a fish.
Three anglers shared top prize for the heaviest fish caught by a 6-14 year old male.
Callum Lancaster, of Scottsdale, and Bridport brothers Kyron and Aric Clark each landed a 2.5lb trout.
Lily Groves, of Gladstone, claimed the prize for the heaviest fish caught by a 6-14 year old female, with her 1lb trout.
Samuel Davis, of Scottsdale, registered teaviest fish caught by an under 6 year old male, with his 1.25lb trout _ there was no female winner.

The mystery weight was 3lb and Sam Hadley, of Scottsdale, was the lucky winner.
The lucky draw prize of a half-day charter for four people, donated by Michael Haley’s Gone Fishing Charters, went to Wayne Johnson.
The Tagged Atlantic salmon weighing 2.25lb and worth $250, was caught by Scottsdale's Danny Butt.
The fishing competition followed Friday evening's traditional festival-opening at Winnaleah District High School, that attracted about 300 people and included included the dry boat race.

Encouragement Award – Russel Raiders – Lynden Russel, Michael Ferguson, Warrick Clark, Lester Carins.
