Adventurous types will don life jackets and helmets _ some even wear wet suits _ and head off down the Ringarooma River on inflated inner tubes in search of glory and bragging rights.
Or maybe just some quiet time on the river with friends.
The derby has been an integral of north-east Tasmania for the past 39 years and is the North East River Festival's marquee event.
But this weekend's action is not confined to Ringarooma River heroics.
The Moorina Golf Challenge will be held on Friday, ahead of Saturday's Derby River Derby.
Sunday's Legerwood Hill Climb is one for the petrol heads and along with Bridport 10+ Fun Run and Walk will wrap up festival action for another year.
