Christopher Allan McCulloch, 28, pleaded not guilty in the Launceston Magistrates Court today to aggravated assault with a firearm.
Police have accused Mr McCulloch of having pointed a firearm at his partner and having pushed her while he was holding the firearm, outside a house in Margaret Street, Launceston, on January 15 this year.
Two independent witnesses who were driving past the residence gave evidence for the prosecution.
The first, a woman, made a 000 call to police immediately after she saw the incident and the tape was played in court as part of her evidence.
In the tape, the woman told the emergency operator she was in Margaret Street and saw a man with a shotgun.
The witness said the man pointed the firearm at a woman, like he was going to shoot her, then he pushed the woman into a door.
A second witness, a man, said he was driving past the incident in Margaret Street.
He told the court that he saw a woman throw a can of drink at a man, then the man reached into a car, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the woman.
Mr McCulloch's partner also gave evidence for police and said she lived in the Margaret Street residence with Mr McCulloch.
She said she had consumed two cocktails and half a bottle of wine before she returned home with Mr McCulloch, where they verbally argued.
The woman told the court that Mr McCulloch was throwing stuff out of his car and produced a rifle, but she did not see where he had obtained it from.
Under cross-examination, the complainant said Mr McCulloch never threatened her with the firearm, nor did he physically harm her.
The hearing, before magistrate Simon Brown, continues.
