While she will become the seventh player to reach 350 games against Melbourne Boomers on Friday, her weekdays are spent whipping up lattes and sorting canned goods at the Spence Grocer.

Contracted until the end of next season, the WNBL games record of 377, jointly held by Rachael Sporn and Lucille Bailie, is in her sights.

She also hopes the days when WNBL players are full-time athletes aren't too far away.

"I remember being a teenager coming into the league and excited thinking I'll be in the era where we're full-time athletes," Bibby said.

"There's been some players shown the world, others expected to be full-time workers and for some it costs them to play.

"I'm certainly not saying marquee players don't deserve the big bucks, they absolutely do, but imagine how good your team would be if those massive dollars were spread throughout your core group?

"Us full-time workers are probably the minority now, which is good, but the talent we have in this league, the girls deserve the right to be full-time athletes."

On training days the 35-year-old is woken by her alarm at 5am and goes to the gym before working from 6.45am to 2pm.

A team training session then awaits at 3.30pm before she finally downs tools at 6pm.

"A lot of the [Canberra] Raiders come into my work and I'd be lying if I said I don't get a bit angry, slaving away and they've finished in the middle of the day and are kicking back having a coffee," Bibby said.

"I sometimes struggle to comprehend how I can get it all done. I certainly don't feel like a youngster when I'm combining working and training and playing."

A serious back injury wiped out two years of her career aged 21 when she was at Dandenong, and a doctor told her she'd battle to play again.

When Capitals coach Carrie Graf came knocking eight years ago, Bibby's intention was to play one more year just to prove to herself she still had what it takes.

Had she not got injured Bibby, drafted by WNBA side New York Liberty in 2000, would likely have played a lot more overseas.

The upside is it's given her the chance to become the WNBL's most capped player.

"It'd be good to have a crystal ball and know where my career might have gone if I didn't get hurt," she said.

"I was in the WNBA, Europe was the next goal on the list and that never eventuated, but I'm super proud to have played my whole career in Australia.

"I'm happy [I'm] toward the end of my career, because if I was one of these athletic youngsters coming through now I don't have the body type for the position I play.

"I've been able to evolve and turn myself into a specialist role player, I understand my limitations and strengths."

Should Bibby play every game the next two seasons including finals, she will finish with 399 games.

She said she is likely to pull the pin after after her current contract, and the chance to become the first player to the 400 barrier won't be a factor in her decision.

"I can't imagine I'd possibly be running around three years from now," Bibby said.

"I'm not someone who would ask or expect a contract just for the sake of getting that record.

"I'd be pretty happy if I could get a sixth championship, and the games record would be nice.

"I played my very first game with Lucille [at Dandenong] who is a good friend to this day. It'd be a pretty nice honour to go past her and Rachael Sporn, one of the greatest to come out of this country.

"[Carlton coach] Mick Malthouse made the comment with [Carlton star] Chris Judd, to retire with something in the tank, I certainly want to do that."

The Capitals' first home match of the season is against Sydney Flames on Saturday night at AIS Arena.
