The committee has recommended it receive the Launceston CBD Bus Interchange Study report as prepared by consultants Pitt & Sherry, following a request earlier this year by city businesses to move some of the stops.
The study lists the council's options as:
- Keep the current location but update the bus stops.
- Stay in St John Street between York and Paterson streets, but St John Street would become one-way with improved bus stops further away from businesses.
- Move the St John Street bus stop from opposite the Quadrant to outside the church between Paterson and Cameron streets.
- Paterson Street between Charles and St John streets would become two-way with bus stops on both sides of the street.
The council has also been recommended to consider the City Heart Project's workshop presentation on concepts for Civic Square, St John Street (including bus interchange) and Cameron Street, where the preferred strategy is the relocation to Civic Square of the bus stops for northbound traffic.
