HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson said celebrating the team’s premiership win in Tasmania was a fantastic occasion and thrill, affectionately dubbing the state his victorious side’s ‘‘second home’’.
Clarkson and a selection of Hawks fan favourites descended on the state’s capital yesterday morning, sharing their back-to-back premiership silverware with a boisterous crowd of hundreds of faithful supporters.
‘‘We’ve had a lot of great times down here and played a lot of really good football,’’ Clarkson said.
‘‘Its great we could bring these two fantastic cups down to the Tasmanian people and get them to help us celebrate what was a great victory on Saturday against Sydney.’’
He said the team’s grand final win was all the more special after overcoming adversities throughout the course of the year.
Hawks captain Luke Hodge said it was great to be back in Tasmania.
‘‘All the support that the Tassie people give us is unreal,’’ Hodge said.
‘‘We always get heaps of numbers to functions, to clinics, to the games, to turnouts like this.’’
‘‘That’s why we continually come down here – we love having a relationship and playing down here because every time we do it’s like it’s the first time.’’
The two Hawks legends promised to soak up their side’s hard-fought celebrations for a little longer yet, before firmly setting their sights on future success next year.
