The Western Bulldogs key-forward is keen to join the Blues’ front-half in place of Jarrad Waite, who earlier this week walked out on the club as a restricted free agent.
A lack of senior opportunities this season (the 23-year-old managed just 10 games for 12 goals), is said to be a key reason behind Jones, who is originally from West Moonah, seeking a new club.
‘‘It’s fair to say Liam has been a bit frustrated this year with a lack of opportunity in the last couple of months,’’ his manager Shane Casley told Melbourne radio station SEN yesterday morning
‘‘At the end of the day, like most guys, he just wants to play senior AFL football.
‘‘(Carlton) is certainly the club that we’ve nominated and we’d like to get there, but until a deal’s done it’s never done, is it?
‘‘There are several clubs we’ve spoken to, but I think Carlton seems to be the best fit for Liam.’’
A Rising Star nominee in 2011, the 197 centimetre, 97 kilogram Jones has played 66 games and kicked 68 goals since making his AFL debut in 2010.
The 32nd pick in the 2008 national draft averaged 10 touches and four marks this year.
Meanwhile, Lauderdale’s Mitch Robinson, who has been put on the trade table by Carlton following his infamous night out, has reportedly attracted the interest of ‘‘several clubs’’, including Brisbane.
