Since hurting his knee in a one-day international against England in January, Faulkner has seen West Australian Mitch Marsh fly past him.
Marsh is set to make his Test debut against Pakistan in the UAE later this month, with Faulkner missing out on selection.
But the former Launceston all-rounder, whose sole Test appearance came in last year’s tour of the UK, is only focusing on his own game for the coming limited-overs clashes against Pakistan.
‘‘Every time you get to play cricket, [the selectors] are looking at your performances, [but] that’s out of my control,’’ Faulkner said on the Cricket Australia website.
‘‘All I can control is take as many wickets as I can and score as many runs as I can against whoever the opposition is.
‘‘As far as I’m concerned, the body’s in good condition and I’m looking forward to playing some cricket again for my country if selected, and doing as well as I possibly can to help the team win as many games as possible.’’
The 24-year-old, who has has some experience playing in the UAE in the IPL, also continued his habit of speaking up prematch.
He declared Australia was keen to get revenge against Pakistan after losing at the Twenty20 World Cup earlier this year.
‘‘Any time you play for your country, no matter if it’s a one, three or five-game series, you’re up for the challenge,’’ Faulkner said.
‘‘Pakistan are a very good team, they’re very used to these conditions here in the UAE, so they’re going to be very tough to compete against.
‘‘And any time you get beaten by another country, you obviously want to knock that on the head as quick as you can – [ideally] the next time you come up against them.’’
Faulkner has played seven T20 internationals, scoring 40 runs at 13.33 and taking seven wickets at 29.85, and 28 ODIs, scoring 560 at 43.7 and taking 38 wickets at 32.65.
Following Monday’s T20, Australia and Pakistan will play three ODIs, with the first on October 7.
