Event co-ordinator Jo Tate said that when contemplating how the milestone should be celebrated, it seemed fitting and a popular idea to travel back to the place where it all began, Scottsdale.
‘‘Tasmanian Women in Agriculture began as a result of two events in 1994 that brought together like- minded rural women who were keen to improve the status of rural women and help them to connect and strengthen their communities," she said.
‘‘The Scottsdale Business and Professional Women joined with the North East Dairy Women’s Discussion Group, in May 1994, to organise the first Tasmanian Women on Farms gathering at Scottsdale.
‘‘Over 140 women from across Tasmania, representing all industry levels attended.’’
Ms Tate said that the October celebrations would start at 11am at LINC Centre, King Street, with viewing of memorabilia, networking and lunch.
‘‘The first of our guest speakers will be Deanna Scott,’’ she said.
‘‘Deanna used to run the Winnaleah District High School farm and was one of the women involved in getting the first gathering going all those years ago.
‘‘Delegates will then be transported to the Scottsdale High School Farm for viewing of a demonstration by the local cattle handlers and see how they are learning to handle livestock.’’
