Tamieka Brooks is holding a garage sale in October to raise money for families whose children have Down syndrome.
While her own son, Hunta, 8, also has Down syndrome, Ms Brooks will keep none of the money for herself.
‘‘It started as a crazy idea of taking him on a tour around Australia,’’ she said.
Staying with 10 families across the nation, Ms Brooks will deliver the money as she goes.
The tour will also give Hunta the opportunity to socialise with new people and lift the stigma around the capabilities of those with Down syndrome.
'‘The money we raise, half of it I’d like to donate to Down Syndrome Tasmania and the other half to the actual families that we stay with,’’ Ms Brooks said.
The fund-raising campaign is getting an early start in an attempt to raise as much money as possible before the trip in October 2015.
After starting the Facebook Page Huntas Fundraising Tour, people from all over Launceston have been donating goods for the event.
Ms Brooks is planning a huge day for the garage sale at a venue still be confirmed on October 25.
As well as selling the donated goods there will be balloons,a lucky dip and face painting.
Ms Brooks said she has been overwhelmed by the support the community has given her.
‘‘It’s unreal,’’ she said.
‘‘There’s no need for us to keep the money.’’
Anyone who has donations for the garage sale can contact Ms Brooks on the Huntas Fundraising Tour Facebook page here.
