MARTYN Goddard's suggestion (The Examiner, September 21) that a pay freeze will fail to contain costs because doctors and nurses will leave the state for better financial reward is a slur on the integrity of those in the health sector.

It assumes that these professionals are greedy and put their income above all else to demand exorbitant fees for their services and that this will wreck the budget.
There might be a very few who might react that way, but one expects that most would be above considering putting personal remuneration above their service to the community.
Politicising the health sector in this manner does not add positively to debate and insults doctors and nurses in the process.
