The spectacle has this year been expanded to a two-day format and will feature an all-new ropes course, including two 70m-long zip lines, one of which is set 60m above the water.
Local personalities tried their luck across the intimidating 70m line at the gorge’s first basin under yesterday’s spring sun, much to the delight of onlookers.
Event co-founder and manager Cade Smith said the expanded format presented something special for everyone to try.
‘‘It’s a bit physical and mental as well,’’ he said.
‘‘The other thing that is unique about the event is that competitors have the option to compete in just one, two, three, four or all of the events.
‘‘It’s in a pentathlon format and each event has its own start time, so people can just come along and do the ropes course if they want.
‘‘There is endurance required to complete the entire challenge, but that’s why we’ve allowed people to just enter one event if they like.
‘‘People can set their own challenge, whether that is physical or mental.’’
Mr Smith said Launcestonians had made full use of the scenic gorge in previous years’ challenges and expects this year to be no different.
The Launceston Eye Institute Cataract Challenge will take place on November 1-2.
