Club secretary Dean Gibbons said the money would be used for installing security shutters on changerooms, buying lightweight covers and finishing upgrading the practice facilities.
‘‘As a small club it’s vital. We wouldn’t be able to fund-raise that sort of money ourselves in a couple of seasons,’’ he said.
‘‘If you’ve got good facilities, that’s half the battle ... hopefully we can get that fun, family environment happening again.’’
The announcement was made on Friday by Bass Liberal MHR Andrew Nikolic, who said the grant was part of the federal government’s commitment to building productive infrastructure for communities.
‘‘Upgrading the cricket practice nets and buying new covers for turf wickets will not only encourage a new junior competition but has the potential to increase membership numbers,’’ Mr Nikolic said.
‘‘It will also provide a safer environment for the community and greater protection of the club’s assets from recent vandalism with the installation of security shutters on clubhouse windows."
