After a year's hiatus the Three Peaks race will return in 2015 with the Mersey Yacht Club the new host to start the race in Devonport on March 6.
Organising chairman Terry Travers said that within days of the club asking for expressions of interest the first entry was received from former winner Peccadillo.
The 48-foot catamaran is sailed by Charles Meredith, commodore of the Multihull Yacht Club of Victoria, and won the Three Peaks race in 2011.
The Three Peaks race started 25 years ago and until last year was hosted by the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club.
After the club decided to no longer be involved, the Three Peaks committee set about looking at alternatives and it became obvious that Devonport offered a better venue to start the event.
Devonport will be able to provide amenities previously unavailable including the closeness to air and sea links for people wishing to travel from interstate.
The March 6 date will coincide with the Taste the Harvest Festival organised by the Lions Club of Devonport.
Next year's Three Peaks race will be restricted to 20 yachts which will sail to Flinders Island before making their way down the East Coast to Coles Bay and then on to the finish line in Hobart.
The race will involve running legs over Mount Strzelecki, Mount Freycinet and Mount Wellington for the athletes involved.
