Westbury Shamrocks Cricket Club president Michael Claxton said the ground's clubrooms were being redeveloped into bigger, more modern, facilities.
"As much as it looks good on the outside, they're pretty ancient on the inside," Mr Claxton said.
"It's for the football club as well, they can have functions there too with the bigger rooms."
He said works were expected to push the room to an approximate 300-person capacity.
"With football our here, the rooms aren't big enough for any of us," Mr Claxton said.
"We joined forces and have been pushing this a bit, it's not just for us, it's for the whole community — people can hire it out for things like wedding functions.
"Hopefully work will begin early January or February."
Lyons Liberal MHA Mark Shelton said facilities at the ground did not meet contemporary minimum playing and training standards.
"The proposed redevelopment will be great for local clubs, the broader community and will generate local jobs," Mr Shelton said.
"We are proud to support this excellent local project and, through these types of investments, the Liberal Government is committed to Tasmanian communities and, through our election promises, we are fulfilling our long-term plan to build a brighter future for the state."
