The state government has appointed a former Victorian judge to hear an appeal by Tim Ellis,SC, found guilty of a driving death in June.
Attorney-General Vanessa Goodwin announced the appointment of David Harper, QC, who served as a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria from 1992 to 2013.
Mr Ellis, who is Tasmania's Director of Public Prosecutions, was found to have caused the death of Launceston's Natalia Pearn, 27, in a collision on the Midland Highway last year.
Today's appointment of Justice Harper as an acting judge in Tasmania was officially made by Lieutenant-Governor Justice Alan Blow who has been performing the duties of governor since Governor Peter Underwood's death earlier this year.
Mr Ellis' appeal is expected to start on November 10. Justice Harper will remain an acting judge of the court until that matter has been finalised.
