This is, but the tip of the iceberg when it comes to maintaining the vice-regal office,
do we really need a governor?
Maybe we could combine the rate of Chief Justice with that of governor? With an extra $50,000.00 for expenses.
This is of course, happening during the interregnum.
It would mean a slight restructure of the court system getting some of the less serious cases out of the Supreme Court, along with more effective use of JP’s.
In reality the essential duties of the governor are small and many of the things dines are “mark work” situations.
It is all a bit of a luxury, having a governor in these break financial times.
We could then open up Government House to the tourists as in Sydney.
They have guided tours every ½ hour Friday, Saturday and Sunday all year, with a charge, it would be income positive, rather than massively negative as it is at the moment.
Buckingham Palace is open to the public months of the year bringing in much revenue.
The whole situation will of course be subject to change if and when Australia becomes a Republic.
