Tasmania has had a naming rights agreement with the Hawks since 2006, and the state’s name appears on all players’ guernseys and other advertising around the match.
The club has won two premierships, in 2008 and 2013, in that period.
The Hawks held on to defeat Port Adelaide by three points on Saturday night, which booked the club their ticket to football’s big dance to face their former favourite son, Lance Franklin, and his Sydney teammates at the MCG this Saturday.
Mr Hodgman confirmed yesterday that he will be attending the grand final.
‘‘When Hawthorn runs out on the MCG next Saturday, they will be putting Tasmania in front of one of the greatest national and worldwide audiences we attract,’’ Mr Hodgman said.
Under their five-year sponsorship agreement, the Hawks will receive a $150,000 bonus by reaching the grand final, and stand to make as much again if they win it.
The team has made the grand final four times in seven years, but are likely to enter the match as underdogs against the minor premiers.
The current $15 million five-year state government sponsorship deal with Hawthorn to play four games in Launceston ends after the 2016 season.
The deal comprises sponsorship of the guernsey, extra cash incentives for success, the Hawks in Schools program and the contribution that the club makes to junior football competitions.
Mr Hodgman told a budget estimates committee that talks were under way to renew the deal with the Hawthorn Football Club and the AFL.
Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania chief executive Luke Martin said the exposure on Saturday would put the state on the forefront of all potential holidaymaker’s minds. He said that if the Hawks won the final and toured Tasmania, the state would again be projected across Australia through national media.
