Dance event organiser Justin Cudmore said the day was a celebration of dance and physical activity.

Mr Cudmore said the highlight of the day was when 3000 children were dancing all at once to pop-singer Adele's Adele's Rolling in the Deep. 

''Everyone was all moving in the same direction one way, many colours all heading one way, and then turning around and heading the other way,'' Mr Cudmore said.

''It was an impressive site.''

Mr Cudmore said the day represented more than a year of planning, deciding on song choices, dances, and dance moves, all of which have to be put together and filmed, to be sent to schools for practice.

He said the children learnt dance skills that they would have for the rest of their lives.

Some of the older dances included the Lady Nelson's Waltz to which modern music was added to, and another modern song was chosen, paired with modern dance 

''There is also the social side.  They get to work together in teams and with partners, learning about beat and rhythm.''
