The loose-head prop's 66 Tests speak volumes for the experience element on his rugby CV.

As for his scrummaging technique, former Wallabies and Waratahs teammate Al Baxter cites Robinson's 183-centimetre height and 112-kilogram weight.

Baxter, a former tight-head prop who played 69 Tests, said Robinson's build and strength made scrums a nightmare for opposing tight-heads.

"His size and strength goes in his favour. He is a short stocky guy … a bit like a Belarusian weightlifter," Baxter said.

"He can get in under opposing tight-heads and cause problems, being really low to the ground.

"He is really strong, highly competitive and works well with his hookers."

Baxter also said Robinson's experience could not be understated, especially for the Wallabies' upcoming tour to South Africa and Argentina.

He expected Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie to draw on that experience and select him to play the Springboks in Cape Town on Saturday week.

"There were obviously some questions asked about the [Wallabies] scrum a few Tests ago," Baxter said.

"But they stood up well against South Africa [in Perth] and for the first 60 minutes against Argentina.

"I'm guessing 'Link' [McKenzie] is happy with his starting guys and looking to bring 'Cat' [Robinson] off the bench to strengthen things in the back end of the game.

"He could start. He has been scrummaging brilliantly."

Baxter said the Springboks would be motivated to avenge their scrum's showing in the Perth Test.

Their intent will also be fuelled by the absence of Wallabies hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau, who has been sidelined again with injury.

"It is going to be a big ask in Cape Town," Baxter said.

"I think the Boks wouldn't have been happy about their scrummaging in Perth. They will come out firing."

Robinson, who trained with the Wallabies on the Gold Coast last week and then played his fourth National Rugby Championship game with the Greater Sydney Rams on Saturday, said he was nervous about his Wallabies return.

The Wallabies assemble in Sydney on Friday and will fly out for South Africa on Monday.

"It felt like my first day of school last week," Robinson, 30, said. "I still have that nervous feeling in my guts going into [Friday]."

Robinson was candid about his self-doubt while out of the Wallabies squad. His previous appearance was on the spring tour last year.

"When you get dropped you are always going to question yourself and ask yourself, 'am I doing enough? Am I playing good enough footy?'" Robinson said.

"You question yourself … [like] in any work. You get sacked from a job you ask yourself, 'why?' It's not easy to go through that.

"It was disheartening … but also good to play for the Rams."

However, Robinson got the lift he wanted from a telephone call from McKenzie telling him of his selection.

"It was good to get the call from Ewen, and it's good to know he still thinks there is plenty of value in me," Robinson said.

"He was happy with what I did last week. I tried to make it as seamless as possible, that I was on top of the game knowledge and details."

However, Robinson realises his next big challenge: being selected for the Test team.

"There will be plenty of energy there," he said.

"I am going to go there, be energetic, enjoy it, train really hard and try and put my hand up as high as I can for selection.

"That is all I can do … make sure if [McKenzie] has a choice to pick me, he could."
