Eli Templeton's promotion to St Kilda's senior list and two year contract yesterday, joining Glenorchy's Jimmy Webster's three-year-deal earlier in the week, leaves just Burnie's Maverick Weller as the sole Tasmanian Saint without a deal for 2015 and beyond.
Templeton, also of Burnie, was selected by the Saints in this year's rookie draft with selection with selection number three, and was promoted to the senior list for round 1.
He made an electric start to his AFL life until breaking his arm against Brisbane in round 6, averaging eight touches, four marks and one tackle game, adding some spark and energy to the Saints' forward half.
His personal highlight came in round 2 against Greater Western, when his two late goals ensured victory.
"It’s been a good learning experience," the 19-year-old said on St Kilda's website about his first year in the AFL.
"Obviously the break was pretty disappointing but I’m probably better off long-term for the developments I’ve made off-field during my time off.''
St Kilda coach Alan Richardson yesterday said he expected the small forward to be a genuine ''goal-kicking option'' next season, while head of football Chris Pelchen labelled Templeton an "exciting addition to the Saints primary list".
"He has a very strong athletic profile and is a good decision maker and excellent deliverer of the ball via foot," Richardson said
Meanwhile Weller, who reinvented himself as a tagger in his 16 games with the Saints after 32 matches with Gold Coast, is expected to also be upgraded to the club's senior list and receive a new contract in the coming days.
