Crown prosecutor John Ransom told the court that Shaw Junior's role in the assault, which occurred in the George Town RSL, included holding the victim down on the ground while co-accused Luke Anthony Shaw stomped on the man's head five times.
Shaw Junior also repeatedly punched the victim in the face during the melee, between two groups of people who knew each other.
However, defence counsel Adrian Hall said that the victim had provoked his client by saying words to the effect of, "One day you will be on your own".
Justice Pearce jailed Luke Anthony Shaw in December last year for his role in the attack.
EARLIER: A MAN has pleaded guilty in the Launceston Supreme Court to an assault at George Town.
Co-accused Paul William Shaw Junior and Paul William Shaw Senior were due to go to trial today, each charged with assault.
However, the Crown dropped the case against Shaw Senior, while Shaw Junior pleaded guilty.
The assault occurred on August 1, 2012 and the victim was a man.
Justice Robert Pearce will hear the facts and sentencing submissions this afternoon.
