WHERE: The Republic Bar, Hobart.
WHEN: Saturday, September 27.
LOOSE-LIVING stoner-pop seedsters Dune Rats will this month bring their own brand of scunge to Hobart’s Republic Bar.
The Saturday show, accompanied by anticipated blow-up on-stage antics, is penned in celebration of the band’s self-titled album – you guessed it – Dune Rats.
Band drummer-vocalist BC Michaels was last month charring down a ciggie over a beer at a mate’s place when he spoke with The Examiner.
‘‘It may or may not be (BC Michaels),’’ were the first words to be slung back down the line on introduction.
‘‘I was wondering why I was getting an 03 number ... what’s going on?’’
For the past two years the Queensland three-piece have been living on the road, partying and spreading their own brand of bratty upbeat music.
The campaign has brought success for the group, which saw the latest release debut at No.23 on the ARIA charts and No.2 on iTunes.
The hype still seemed fresh for Michaels, who said the band’s first single, Funny Guy, also made number-one most-played on Triple J.
‘‘We’ve had good feedback, loving it,’’ he said.
‘‘I was driving in a car on my way to my mate’s house today and heard (Dune Rats single) Superman on the radio and I got a boner.
‘‘It was sweet, I didn’t have anyone in the car with me to psyche up about it, so I just sat there by myself like, ‘yiiiiiewww’’’.
It will be the band’s third visit to the state, after hitting Hobart in tours with Children Collide and Bleeding Knees Club – the tour in which they recruited bassist Brett Jansch.
‘‘I’m stoked to go back there, I love it,’’ Michaels said.
‘‘Hopefully we’ll bring some inflatables and go for a ride around on the boat, or like a couch or something like that, get a ‘Dutchie’ going in the venue. ‘‘Danny (Beusa), our singer, wants to have a pre-show party with gnarly people at the show beforehand for old-time’s sake.
‘‘We’ve just had a bunch of weird pre-parties at the album launch tour, it’s our singer Danny’s idea - he wants to bring back the pre-party.’’
During its four-year history the group has so far fended off bong-related interviews with A Current Affair’s Tracy Grimshaw, and gained a reputation for hectic live performances.
The band will play at The Republic from 8pm alongside Melbourne’s WOD.
