Alex Blades launched his website, Choosevent, at the start of the year.
The service allows users to easily find out what’s happening near them by typing in their location, an event name or keyword.
‘‘I saw a lot how councils and government groups and tourism groups didn’t have an effective events calendar.
‘‘It took a while thinking at home on the couch and drawing pictures before I got to using the computer and explaining to people what I wanted done.’’
Mr Blades said the final result had yielded significant interest.
The Launceston City Council has started to use the software on its website.
‘‘There are about 8000 events to look at on our website fed by the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse and other groups and individuals,’’ he said.
‘‘If councils or others would like to use the Choosevent software on their website they can email me at info@choosevent.com and I can send a string of code they can build into their website.’’
The website, choosevent.com, is mobile responsive.
‘‘Anywhere you go in Australia you can press one button and see what’s on around you,’’ Mr Blades said.
