We don't hear this said very often but Alan Austin's submission to the HIP Royal Commission shows that this is the case and I recommend anyone interested in the truth and not the propaganda surrounding this program to read his submission.
He reports that studies by the CSIRO indicate that the HIP reduced the number of fires by approximately 70 per cent compared to what was happening before.
He also demonstrates that if Australia had followed other countries into recession and had similar increases in deaths from suicide and other causes such as stress related diseases an extra 200 Australians would have died each year.
It was a shame that when Australia was facing a crisis a few greedy people ruined this program for everyone.
