WHAT: The Sound Experience
WHERE: Auld Kirk Presbyterian Church, Sidmouth.
WHEN: Saturday, October 4, October 11 and November 1, 2pm and 7.30pm.
WEST Tamar’s historic Auld Kirk Presbyterian Church will ring with two of the North’s top operatic voices for this year’s ArtEntwine celebration.
Launceston’s Matthew Garwood and Devonport’s Xiao Xia have been putting the Sidmouth church acoustics through its paces.
The duo will perform at the church on October 4 and 11, and November 1 for the event’s The Sound Experience series.
‘‘Because this is a big community event, it’s a big privilege to be a part of it,’’ Xia said.
‘‘Every time I perform I will make sure I deliver Chinese music to the local people, to give them a taste of the Chinese music and what it’s like.’’
Garwood said he had been selected by musical co-ordinator Susan Clark after his performance in Phantom of the Opera in Launceston.
‘‘That was the initial conversation of what was coming up,’’ he said.
‘‘These are places that we wouldn’t normally get to perform in ... the hardest thing is getting the time together to practice at the moment.’’
Counter tenor Nic Tolputt, Tasmanian violinist Michael Stocks and The Tasmanian Guitar Trio will also perform during the events.
West Tamar Arts Group committee member Robyn Barnet said the event had been able to grow with support from the West Tamar Council.
‘‘The performance is a new strand we’ve added to ArtEntwine,’’ Ms Barnet said.
