The two teams had battled the round robin games during the day and qualified for the final by both defeating Kings Meadows High School.
The opening quarter of the final was a tough encounter with both teams creating winning plays and defending well, with Sacred Heart taking an early 9-5 lead, thanks to the work of goal shooter Beth Pullen.
In the second and third quarters Marist used great defensive pressure to create turnovers in the centre third.
Goal shooters Chelsea Lloyd and Maddison Hayward were able to take advantage, but despite this they still trailed 25-21 at the last change.
During the final quarter, Sacred Heart defender Gabby Chaffey and centre Elise Barwick played well and intercepted many of the Sacred Heart’s passes and shots at goal.
Its ability to get the ball forward to captain Hollie Moore and Pullen, who worked well together in the circle, was vital in the school securing the victory.
