They said their new school is ‘‘way better’’.
The school of 345 pupils formed eight months ago after the merger of Mayfield Primary with Rocherlea Primary School.
Principal Vicki Mackrill said the school had good results from the Education Department’s recent review.
After speaking with some of the pupils it is clear they have developed a real love for their school.
Year 6 Jaikeb Evans said having more kids at the school created opportunity to try different things.
For instance, the pupils now have dance, music and French classes, and can participate in sport events.
Year 6 Alisa Lane said they competed in the Launceston State School Sports Association athletics carnival, and won by many points.
The school has also been able to gather enough players for its first football team.
With a greater community focus and increased parent engagement, it also hopes to organise its first school fair.
Mrs Mackrill said increased student numbers allowed for extra teachers – up to 28 – and specialist support.
She said Grade 3 had shown strong NAPLAN results, with the school-wide maths results showing an area of focus for the future.
‘‘We really foster the idea that learning is the gateway to leading tomorrow, and having a happy, successful and fulfilling life.
‘‘And we think that all of our children can be leaders, and we really try and instil that in them in this early stage of their lives.’’
