The dedicated room was first suggested at August’s council meeting in a notice of motion from Cr Heather Barwick.
Cr Barwick called for a room ‘‘when required to meet with constituents or any other appointments to do with council business where a room is required’’.
The suggestion was knocked back, but has made a resurgence.
Mayor Roger Broomhall said the change was partially related to the recently-appointed general manager, Andrew Macnish.
‘‘The general manager had some influence into it, but it was a mutual understanding that that’s what we should do,’’ Cr Broomhall said.
‘‘We have always had an elected members’ room, but we’re setting up a dedicated room.
‘‘It came up in a notice of motion in the last council meeting [but] this is a whole different proposal because it’s away from the office area and it’s near the mayor’s office.’’
Cr Broomhall said he was unsure when the room would open.
‘‘There is still some work that we have to do with that.’’
The George Town Council will meet tomorrow at the council chambers at 10am.
The West Tamar Council will meet today at the Windsor Community Precinct from 1.30pm.
