Providing a vast range of assistance to families, individuals and the elderly, the Benevolent Society has been helping Launceston locals since 1834.
Holding the inaugural Ben Elephant Ball in October, proceeds from the event will go towards funding the society’s many ongoing services.
Benevolent Society board member Peter O’Sullivan said this was the first time the society had held a public fund-raiser.
‘‘Everything that gets donated goes straight back into clients,’’ Mr O’Sullivan said.
‘‘The theme is about Launceston helping Launceston’s people.
‘‘We’ve been fortunate to have some really good support from the Launceston community,’’ he said.
The black-tie event will include live music, auctions and the chance to take home one of many professionally made and decorated cakes.
Organising committee member Amanda Cowley said the event is something a bit different for Launceston.
‘‘It’s just a good, fun night out,’’ Ms Cowley said.
Having only one paid staff member, the society’s volunteers assist their clients through emergency situations.
Assistance can include food hampers, clothes, furniture, nappies and blankets.
The Ben Elephant Ball will be held on October 24, for tickets contact the Benevolent Society
