Dance Fever co-coordinator Tanya Lanham said this year’s theme was ‘‘believe’’.
‘‘It’s about believing in myths and legends, cultural beliefs, like in India they have Bollywood and in Japan they have Geishas, and we have things about believing in yourself and believing in monsters coming out from under the bed,’’ Mrs Lanham said.
Mrs Lanham has coordinated the two-hour show alongside Sophie Lucas.
Choreographers such as year 12 student Jak Wilson have also contributed.
Jak said it felt good to choreograph a five-minute ballroom piece for the show.
‘‘It’s different being the teacher, but it’s good to show what I can do,’’ he said.
Jak started ballroom dancing six years ago and travels to Victoria every weekend to practice.
He said he dreamed of being a professional dancer and would love to get into musical theatre.
Ballroom is just one of the many styles students will take on in the show, which features Bollywood, Broadway, jazz, contemporary and hip-hop.
Mrs Lanham said the show was an opportunity for the students from five high schools and seven primary schools to open their minds to different dance styles.
‘‘It gives them a big semi-professional show to be in and it’s a really good pathway for learning about the arts early on,’’ she said.
‘‘Dancing is really good for fitness and there’s lots of academic work students have to do at school in year11 and 12, so dancing can be a really good outlet for stress and expressing themselves.’’
Launceston College students participating in Dance Fever have rehearsed every Monday for 20 weeks as part of an extra curricular activity.
High schools involved are Exeter, Kings Meadows, Riverside, Queechy and Brooks.
Participating primary schools are Exeter, Norwood, Glen Dhu, Punchbowl, Summerdale, Riverside and Trevallyn.
