Vocalist and guitarist Luke Triffitt said the five-piece folk-rock band had been going from strength to strength in the last few months.
"Since the whole band has been a five-piece we've been getting stronger and better at what we do," he said.
Triffitt said the band was grateful so many people had voted for them to win The Examiner's sponsorship.
"I guess in a way (we were) absolutely surprised, it's nice, it's kind of humbling I suppose," he said.
"There are actually so many good bands and good musicians in Launceston at the moment."
Triffitt said he had played in a different band at the first Falls Festival in Marion Bay, and Paper Souls would be stoked if they were lucky enough to win a slot.
Further details of the Falls Foster Band Initiative will be released later this month.
