Mayors from 10 of the 13 municipalities in Lyons attended the meeting in Perth, along with federal member for Lyons Eric Hutchinson, Liberal MHA Mark Shelton, and state parliamentary secretary Guy Barnett.
Cr Easther said Mr Hutchinson provided the mayors with an overview of where the federal government stood on a number of issues, and detailed the status of some federal legislation.
He said he expected that many of the councils located in Lyons would take advantage of the opportunity to work with Mr Hutchinson in the months ahead.
"Certainly the member is very keen to work closely with local government, and as far is I'm concerned, anyone who will work closely with local government gets a big tick," Cr Easther said.
"It's a good opportunity for the mayors to speak to the local member, and also for the local member to speak to the mayors about exactly what is going on in their particular area."
Cr Easther said having a close working relationship with the federal member for the region would be useful for the West Tamar municipality.
"West Tamar has got some projects that are on the drawing bard, some developments in the Legana area in particular, we will be looking for some federal funding," he said.
"But we'll also need to speak with the federal member for Bass because we are in the unfortunate position where our municipal area is divided between Bass and Lyons."
The federal member for Bass is Liberal Andrew Nikolic.
