Burt was booked by the match review panel for making high contact with a raised elbow on Western Storm player Jordan Bennett in last week’s qualifying final.

Burt made an early guilty plea to the charge but with carry over points owing, the match review panel penalty equated to a two-week ban that potentially could have ended his season.

The club decided to contest that at a TSL tribunal hearing held in Launceston last night.

While the tribunal upheld the striking charge, the club successfully argued for a downgrading of the severity from a level 3 offence to a level 2, resulting in a one-week ban instead of two.

The result means the in-form Burt, who has kicked 16 goals in the last four matches, will be eligible to play in North’s next final the following week which will either be a preliminary final or grand final depending on the outcome of Saturday’s second semi against Clarence.

‘‘He got a week which is better than what we were offered by the match review panel,’’ Northern Bombers coach Zane Littlejohn said after the hearing.

‘‘We argued what we believed the severity of the impact should have been and it ended up at 100 points which is a week.

‘‘The best outcome would have been no weeks but it was better than what it could have been and we’ll move on and focus on this Saturday.’’
