The Thunder had no answer to the Cobras finishing burst, being outscored in the last quarter to go down 84-70.
The preliminary final defeat was a bitter blow for the Thunder which had been in the top two in the SEABL South Conference all season.
Kilsyth will now play Mount Gambier for the conference championship next weekend.
It was the first time this season the Cobras had beaten the Thunder and last night they brought a finals standard game that the Thunder couldn’t match.
The Thunder started the game well leading at the first quarter 21-14 mainly through the efforts of teenager Kyle Clark.
Coming off the bench Clark stepped up to shoot a team-high 26 points and his input in the game compensated for the lacklustre performance of Nathan Wilson who finished with just six points.
Although disappointed with last night’s outcome it still brought to an end what had been an otherwise highly productive season.
The team was able to win 17 of its 26 roster games and its performances were well above all expectations.
The team’s management has already set about securing players for next year.
