An eager group gathered in the school's courtyard as buckets of ice were hose-filled by grinning volunteers, all in the name of a good cause.
The spectacle was organised by the school's student leadership board, who raised money for ALS research by taking donations from staff and students.
Prospect High School's Wendy Green said the group spoke to classes about the affects of ALS, also known as motor neurone disease.
``It's definitely highlighted awareness ... it's not just about getting wet and making a spectacle of it,'' Ms Green said.
``The students pay to watch and a raffle is drawn to see who empties the bucket, our staff donated to the cause as well, some of them quite generously.
``Our school attendant nominated the school leadership board, and they challenged the principal, so he's the main event.''
School leadership board member Jordan Thorp, grade 10, said posters were displayed around the school in an effort to promote yesterday's event.
``Everyone's quite excited to see use freeze, and it's for a good cause,'' Jordan laughed.
