Colin Bird, who has an intellectual disability, is just weeks away from going for his P-plate test.
But after the destruction of the Wheels 4 Work car his quest for a licence, which has already given him confidence and empowerment, is now in limbo.
``He was so excited to get his L1 and L2 licence,'' Wheels 4 Work volunteer Leanne Hoskinson said.
``It's been empowering for this young man's growth. He has been on a very special journey.''
The vehicle was stolen on Monday night and has brought Wheels 4 Work to a halt.
Ms Hoskinson has called on the community for a lending hand because the organisation's insurance won't cover a new vehicle.
She has asked any companies who may want to help out, and have their logo carried on the car, to call her on 0419566614.
Wheels 4 Work has been running for seven years and supports 39 hours a week on the road helping people achieve the 50 hours driving they need to go for a driving test.
It currently support 30 drivers and has a waiting list of 60 people .
``Anyone wishing to support our program with assistance in getting another vehicle or financial assistance would be appreciated,'' Ms Hoskinson said.
Anybody with information about the theft of the car is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800? 333000 or Tasmania Police on 131? 444.
