The 12-year-old is just back from Sydney where he competed in the Australian and Oceania championships winning gold medals in both.
He is now looking forward to competing in the world titles in Mexico in late October.
Stewart is a member of the Launceston taekwondo club Hoju Martial Arts and travelled to Sydney with club mates Edan Robotham, 12 and Isaac Wyley, 15.
The boys are coached by David Warren, the master instructor at the club. Warren explained that national selection for Stewart became possible with the introduction of a cadet class for youngsters aged between 12 and 14 years.
Stewart won his gold medals in the poomsea discipline which deals with the technical side of taekwondo. Stewart becomes the eighth member of Hoju Martial Arts to earn national selection.
