Poatina saxophonist and vocalist Spike and Lea Mason will cruise through improvised favourites alongside Sydney-Estonia pianist Henri Peipman.
While accomplished musicians in their own rights, the Masons said a chance to witness Peipman's prowess was not to be missed.
‘‘I’ve been in quite a few groups with him, where we’re from in Sydney we forge musical friendships with people you connect with musically,'' Spike said.
‘‘We connected with Henri about 20 years ago and we just kept working with each other.
‘‘I’m actually recording an album at the moment in my home studio just for one of the residents here—she’d bought Henri’s latest album from our art gallery and asked if she could get him to play on her album.''
He said they would fly Peipman down to record on the album, and take advantage of his trip by holding the concert.
Lea said the musical relationship between the artists allowed them to push barriers with their improvisation.
‘‘When you’ve worked with someone for a long time you develop a trust with them, you can take things further, take them to more of an extreme,’’ she said.
Tickets for the show are $10 a person, or $5 for concession holders.
