Ms Pacot’s grandson was 17 when he was first diagnosed with the condition and relapsed again in 2012, not long before his 21st birthday.
She said she spent time supporting him at a Brisbane hospital during his admission and gained new understanding of the emotional and physical toll caused by the condition.
Ms Pacot said his care was free of charge, with thanks to the Leukaemia Foundation, and has since wanted to give back in whatever way she could.
‘‘You’ve got to be in that position yourself to see what work they are doing, otherwise you do not see how hard it can be,’’ she said.
‘‘My grandson had chemo,I saw 10 people in chain getting needles, it’s heartbreaking.’’
She said she crafted bath bombs, shampoos and conditioners once a month to sell at a shop at Kings Meadows, with proceeds donated to the foundation.
The store was unavailable this month, which meant she had to look elsewhere for her monthly donation.
Ms Pacot will hold a Father’s Day fund-raising dinner at Longford's The Happy Chef on Saturday, September 6.
The dinner includes hors d’oeuvres on arrival and a selection of gourmet meals and desserts for the three-course evening.
Former Lyons MHR Dick Adams will MC the event, with tickets costing $45 a person.
Bookings can be made by calling the restaurant on 6391 1270 or by going to the Cancer Support Centre at 69 Howick Street, Launceston.
