Tables, ladders and chairs – even street signs were strewn across the arena, as Launceston’s Eddie Jones defended his TCW Championship against the Cremator in the main event.
Before the carnage, Jones said the display wasn’t just for long-time fans of WWE.
’’Bring mum, dad, grandma and the kids and you know you’ll get an entertaining night,’’ Jones said.
‘‘It’s fun and it doesn’t discriminate,’’ he said, explaining how he started watching wrestling when he was about seven and has stuck with it through all its transitions.
‘‘I’ve seen the sport go from appealing to adults to appealing to kids and it’s great to draw inspiration on that now, especially with such a strong family base here.
’’I can finally use a lot of the stuff I watched and enjoyed when I was a kid.’’
TCW owner Leigh Barber said professional wrestling had evolved over the years, but the one constant was seeing smiles on faces at the end of the evening.
‘‘I’ve heard us referred to as a travelling circus,’’ he said.
‘‘Everyone knows wrestling is what it is, but you can hear from the crowd how much the kids, even adults and grandmas get into it.
‘‘We spend at least an hour signing autographs for kids before we go home.
‘‘It’s entertainment.’’
TCW’s next wrestling event will be at Elphin Sports Centre on November 15.
