The 27-year-old will on Monday depart for the 70.3 World Triathlon Championships, which will be held in Mont Tremblant, Quebec, in Canada on September 7.

‘‘This will be the biggest event I’ve competed in as the best athletes over the half-ironman distance in the world will be competing,’’ he said yesterday.

‘‘I’ve been training hard for the past 12 weeks, competing in the 25-29 age group, so I’m looking forward to it.

‘‘But it will all be for the experience for me as it is the first time for me on the world stage.

‘‘I am purely just going for the experience, with no real expectation on myself on how I perform.’’

The former Queechy High School and Newstead College student qualified for the championships after winning his age group in the 70.3 Ironman event in Canberra late last year and placing second over the same distance at Geelong earlier this year.

The Launceston personal trainer also won his age group and placed 12th in the open-elite-pro male category in the Busselton 70.3 Ironman event in May.

‘‘The win at Busselton was a good way to finish my season, so I am feeling quite good.’’

Hill’s trip has basically been self-funded, with some support from Nathan Jackson, from Cycle2, Rick Wyllie, from All About Gardens, and Launceston Toyota, and he also thanking his parents John and Vicki for ‘‘being there for him’’.

Hobart's Hayden Armstrong will also compete in the same event as Hill.

Launceston's Oliver Cook, Rae Dowling, Dave Herbig, Heather Cairns and Jack Matthews will also be in Canada, competing in the sprint or Olympic distance events in Edmonton.
