The married couple will graduate from the University of Tasmania with PhDs in their chosen fields – Mr Al-Odat a PhD graduate in accounting and Ms Omari a PhD in biomedical science.
On Thursday, the couple said they were grateful for the opportunity to learn together in Tasmania.
‘‘It’s a very big deal for us,’’ Mr Al-Odat said.
‘‘We’re very grateful to the uni for letting us study here and helping us along the way. Everyone here has been so supportive.
‘‘We are treated like family here,’’ Ms Omari added.
The pair have had two children during their PhD studies – three-year-old Awsam and six-month-old Karam.
But now another challenge lies ahead, as they both search for full-time work in Launceston.
‘‘We have to find jobs now and I think that will be the hard part,’’ Mr Al-Odat said.
‘‘Sometimes it can be very difficult.’’
Before then however, the couple have planned to celebrate their milestones with friends.
