Bass Liberal MHA Michael Ferguson spent almost $800 on a private chauffered car to travel between Launceston and Hobart, according to figures released this morning in state parliament.

Opposition Leader Bryan Green came to question time armed with a Right to Information request that showed Mr Ferguson spent $776 on a private car in May to attend a press conference.

Mr Green asked the Premier whether Mr Ferguson would pay the amount back.

''We won't be paying back money we've saved,'' Mr Hodgman said.

Mr Hodgman said the government had already saved $27,000 in three months to July by reducing ministerial car numbers.
