SYD Edwards (Letters, August 19) has taken a great liberty in the quote he has attributed to the letter from Gwendolyn Adams (August 11) in relation to the $18 million upgrade at the Defence Science and Technology Organisation at Scottsdale.

What she wrote was ‘‘While Geoff Lyons may have helped push the upgrade of the Defence Force Science and Technology organisation at Scottsdale, the real credit should go to Guy Barnett, Tasmanian senator between 2002 and 2011, and before that to Warwick Smith’’.
The point is that Labor Senator Helen Polley and Mr Edwards claimed that Mr Lyons was responsible for building works at the Scottsdale Defence facility.
This was not incorrect. All the project development work for the upgrade was completed before Mr Lyons was elected to Parliament.
