Students or professionals between the age of 19 and 25 are encouraged to apply for an exchange to Turkey.
Rotarians in Turkey will provide free accommodation for the 20-day exchange, which will aim to widen the vocational experience of the participants and broadening cultural understanding.
The program will include a visit to the conservation and excavation works at archaeological sites at Lycia and others including Patara, Xanthos, Sagalassos or Olympos.
In addition, the Neolithic settlement of Catalhoyuk and the ancient towns and cities of Ankara, Antalya, Kastamonu and Safranbolu will be visited.
The exchange team will be guided by experienced excavation teams and will witness the restoration and excavation work from up close.
The team will also stay a few days at the sites themselves to help them understand the activities of the excavation.
At various sites, the team will have access to experts who will demonstrate traditional Turkish architecture and restoration techniques.
Museum visits are also included in the program.
Eligible applicants will have a background or training in architecture, engineering, arts and history or archaeology.
Anyone interested in joining in the exchange program should contact the Rotary Club of Deloraine by phoning Peter Griffin on 0419 348 448.
