The restaurant was one of many Launceston restaurants to be selected by Tourism Northern Tasmania to participate in the conference, and received the Northern Tasmania On A Plate-Restaurant of the Year Award for its efforts.
Pierre’s Restaurant co-owner Rohan Birchmore said the conference was an important event for Northern Tasmania and he and his staff were delighted to have been given the opportunity to participate.
‘‘Winning the Northern Plate Award was an absolute bonus – we are very proud of all our staff,’’ he said.
‘‘What the award does for us is give us the ability to market Launceston and the North.
‘‘All of these awards that have been created assist in putting Launceston and Tasmania on the map.’’
Mr Birchmore said the restaurant had been briefed to create a dish that was ‘‘very Tasmanian’’.
‘‘Venison is a pretty specialised dish that you can only get at certain times and it proved to be a great dish to serve,’’ he said.
Mr Birchmore hoped that Pierre’s Restaurant and other businesses which participated in the conference would attract travellers to Northern Tasmania.
‘‘It is such an excellent food and wine destination,’’ he said.
