The Tasmanian state finals of the RoboCup Junior competitions were held in Hobart, and one Launceston primary school scooped first prize in two categories.
Grade 6 pupils from Norwood Primary School – and their robots – won the dance performance, and the dance and theatre performance categories.
Teacher Michelle Dennis said the pupils spent about 12 weeks building their robots, creating costumes for them and using computer programming to create a dance performance.
They also had to take to the dance floor themselves.
Grade 6 pupil Abby Jackson said the two themes were children’s cartoon characters and Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men.
Mrs Dennis said the competition taught pupils a range of skills, and was particularly aimed at encouraging girls to pursue a career or further education in the science and engineering fields.
