Eight Northern schools were closed yesterday after reports of flying roof tiles, and tree limbs falling on school grounds, during the erratic winds.

Education corporate services deputy secretary Andrew Finch did not provide damage costs but has received numerous requests for assistance from affected schools.

Kings Meadows High School and Ravenswood Primary School were two of the four schools seriously impacted.

"The overwhelming majority of requests relate to minor damage associated with roof leaks and trees on school grounds," Mr Finch said.

"Four schools have been impacted seriously with damage to roofing and ceilings (and) are being attended to by the department as a matter of priority."

Mr Finch said most of the damage had been cleared.

"All departmental staff and contractors ensure that damage to facilities or property is made safe to protect against injury or further damage," he said.

"The affected areas have been cordoned off and students and staff will not have access to these areas until the damage has been fully repaired."
